Tax Breakdown

Nodak Electric paid $910,422 in gross revenue taxes in 2008 to 12 county governments in its service area.

The money paid is two percent of Nodak’s gross revenue. The gross revenue is divided by the miles of lines Nodak has in North Dakota. This amount is multiplied by the number of miles in the townships Nodak serves in each county.

Along with the gross revenue tax, the co-op paid $28,415 in real estate taxes to Pembina, Walsh, Grand Forks, Ramsey, Traill, and Steele counties. This is because Nodak’s headquarters and warehouse sites are located in these counties.

The taxes Nodak pays each year are distributed the same way the property taxes are distributed. Each county allocates the money differently. Some of the money will finance the school districts and provide for the various programs offered by the counties, cities, townships and park districts.
